In my haste to start the massacre, I didn't shake it (and didn't wait until evening either). The liquid came out in a jet and the foam coated the roof around entrance to the nest - wasps went mad and started dying almost immediately. After a couple of applications, I realised I hadn't shaken it as per the instructions, so I did so and tried another application, but this time instead of a jet, it foamed up on leaving the can and would only travel about 1m. Shaking (at least when the can was partially full) seems to have stopped the jet from forming, so might account for a few of the reviews I read saying they had a dud product.
