This could mean that not as much of the juices/grease will land on the bars to get heated and smoke, thus flavoring the meat you are grilling. That said, I don't find that to be a problem, and I've been very happy with both the performance of the bars and the price. One final unrelated tip. For those of you having problems with the spark modules on these grills, I found our problem to be the battery holder in the module. I replace the battery holder with a cheap AA holder and wired it to the spring contacts in the original module. Voila! The sparker works consistently now.
