It was using the normal top and bottom residential type closers, but they were not strong enough to overcome the suction. There were some other reviewers saying that it makes the door too hard to push open, they must not have read the directions, there is a hex nut that you turn in order to adjust the spring tension, this makes the door easier to open if you adjust it. There are 4 hex nuts for adjustment, one side has S for sweep (how fast the door closes) L for Latch which is how fast it closes for the last couple inches to latch, on the opposite side it is the hex nut to adjust the spring tension (force needed to push the door open) and on top is the back check hex nut, which prevents it from swinging open too fast and hitting walls. These all have to be potentially adjusted to fit your specific door situation.
