I know theoretical, but i'm curious about practical.** A: Actual speed is going to be entirely dependant on your built network you are adding this into. The thing to know is that you will not see any slowdown on your network with this added device. It has definitely helped keep my network moving smoothly with no bottle necks. I however have gigabit line run through my house as well as a gigabit router to ensure the fastest speeds possible. This has only improved my speeds as yo take some of the switching workload off of my router. **Q: Is this splitter compatible with cat 8 cables?** A: It is backwards compatible with cat 5-7. It is just designed with more turns and shieldings because it is capable of 400 times the speed throughput..... **Q: What is the power consumption profile?** A: Per Netgear's website http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/switches/GS208.aspx#tab-techspecs the 8-port has a maximum power consumption of 3.64 watts. **Q: Can this be used to plug into a rj45 jack in my bedroom? I have two computers that need an Ethernet connection.
