## Description

This is the strongest model for Nema 23 stepper motor, it with 1.8 deg. step angle (200 steps/revolution). Each phase draws 4.2A, allowing for a holding torque of 3.0Nm(425oz.in). Electrical Specification: * Manufacturer Part Number: 23HS45-4204S * Motor Type: Bipolar Stepper * Step Angle: 1.8 deg. * Holding Torque: 3.0Nm(425oz.in) * Rated Current/phase: 4.2A * Phase Resistance: 0.9ohms * Inductance: 3.8mH+/-20%(1KHz) Physical Specification: * Frame Size: 57 x 57mm * Body Length: 113mm * Shaft Diameter: 10mm * Shaft Length: 24mm * D-cut Length: 20mm * Number of Leads: 4 * Lead Length: 400mm * Weight: 1.8kg Connection: Black(A+), Green(A-), Red(B+), Blue(B-) Warning: Make sure the motor connect to a constant current or chopper drive controller before you test motor. Connecting the motor directly to a power supply will destroy the motor.

Review: It's high torque, works well - used these for a rail system and an arduino build that required a good 50lbs of lift across two motors. These don't disappoint. They can heat up, so I set the stay current to 50% and they still hold steady but stay cool. Good motor.
Review: Great stepper! - This stepper motor performs very well for my application and exceeded my expectations. I'm using these in a milling cnc I'm building to drive the axis ball screws and have been able to achieve speeds in excess of 2200rpm which with a 5mm pitch screw, translates into 11,000mm/min or over 400IPM. Mass moved during these tests was 60lbs. Granted the torque at this speed is next to nothing for the given voltage but at least is an indicator of where the limitations are. Some details of the setup tested are listed below. Motor driver : M542T (4:1 Microstepping) Power supply: 48V/5A (set to 49.5v) Meanwell NDR series Ball Screw: unbranded - 1605, 700mm Length, BK mount supports, split clamping coupler. Ways: NSK 35mm Linear guides Ramp profile: trapezoidal curve at 600 mm/sec^2 While I haven't tested it but I believe the voltage limit for this motor calculates out to around 60v so one may be able to squeeze out a few hundred more rpm. Other comments: 1. Due to the large shaft size, the cheaper non-helical cut couplers are bulky and not balanced well. 2. Individual wire leads - most lower cost stepper motors are like this but I'd prefer them as a cable or even better, a fixed circular connector receptacle like a standard M12 connector.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is there an adapter available to fit the 11mm input shaft of a 20:1 speed reducer nmrv030?**
A: They are researching it here, where the motor is sold. Wish I had an answer, but at least I'm not THAT guy.

**Q: How many RPMs will the motor run before the torque drops in half?**
A: The torque is highest at a slow 10 RPM. The torque drops linearly at the RPM increase. It starts to skip pulses because of low torque at about 200 RPM. I had to add a 100 tooth to 36 tooth xml timing pulleys to increase the torque.

**Q: Where can I get a gear that works with this 10mm shaft? Most of those I've seen are in standard, not metric units.**
A: I've had luck finding pulleys on EBay. I'm not sure about gears but it would be worth a shot if you haven't already looked. Also you could buy something to fit on a 3/8in shaft and drill it out to 10mm.

**Q: What is the maximum power output in Watts? I’m sure it’s higher than the 3W they have listed.**
A: Hello,

The power is calculated as:
P = V *I* # of coils active, or equivalently
P = I^2*R* # of coils active
For instance, if only one coil is active,
P=4.2^2*0.9*1 = 15.87 watts
If two coils are active, such as when the motor is holding a position, then the power doubles, which comes down to 31.75 watts.

Hope this helps,

Hector

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great stepper!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Drive motor for an electronic Target frame
*by D***N on March 17, 2023*

Wanted to build an electronic turning target frame that runs off a Bullseye Match app on my iPhone/ iPad for practice for Bullseye/ Precision Pistol Matches. This motor provides the rotation. Works ok. Was hoping it would be enough to turn a 6# rotating assembly 90° in around 1 second. it is ok, not ideal. Not like I’d hoped anyway, but then it wasn’t manufactured with my application in mind. The current setup up is direct drive. I may machine myself some pulleys or sprockets and use some tearing or a transmission. Would buy again but I have no idea how they’d work for their intended use in cnc applications I’d rate it at 4 stars but it seems unfair given my “misuse” of the product.
