There are some Civil drawings and others that contain 3D objects & tend to really tax a 1 gig video card. So we bought this one which we assumed that it would have enough horsepower to handle the terrain model, and all those 3D points in this particular drawing. It did very well, and the operator was able to move around in 3D space viewing the model(s), easily. Most drawings don't require such a powerful video card, but for the occasional 3D drawing that is rather complex, you need a card like this one. We highly recommend this video card for most CAD work. When working with 10s of millions of polys in Maya's viewport, performance on the v5900 is significantly higher than what my previous consumer card (GTX560) could deliver. You won't notice much performance benefit over a high-end consumer card when working with low-poly models though.What's best about this card though is the stability, feature support and confidence when working in OpenGL apps.The major drawcard of the AMD cards is their ability to run 3 monitors from a single card. This is a great feature, though I did struggle to get my Cintiq running alongside my other 24" monitors. All is fine now. I haven't encountered any other problems with it.I would certainly recommend the v5900 to anyone wanting to enter the realm of workstation graphics. I'm even planning to buy another to run them both in CrossFire Pro, which is supported by Maya whereas standard Crossfire and Sli isn't. If you're not working with 10s of millions polys then get it for the sake of stability.
