Review: Best yogurt starter - Bulgarian yogurt starter is the best. This product is very good. It makes creamy healthy yogurt. Taking out a couple of tablespoons from the middle and using for the next batch is so easy and economical. I use a VonShef yogurt maker for convenience and 1ltr UHT milk but you can just use a container and keep it warm. The VonShef also has a strainer if you prefer very thick Greek type yogurt. This starter is great and the yogurt so healthy for you. The yogurt it makes is so creamy and delicious tasting.
Review: Easy to use, tasty result - I'm fairly new to home made yogurt, but this Bulgarian culture is brilliant. Success every time and the kids love it too. Just follow the recipe, and you'll have a nice firm but smooth yogurt within 9 hours (8 to ferment, 1 hour in the fridge to cool off). I've tried various timings, but never noticed much difference to taste between 8, 10 or 12 hour fermentations. What a bargain, as the culture just keeps breeding in every new batch.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is the freeze dried culture ok left outside if it hasn't been used yet? I haven't put mine in the freezer or fridge.**
A: Yes I didn’t put one my first packet in the fridge or freezer and it worked out fine. My second delivery I put the packet in the fridge and it worked ok but the end product seemed a little thinner than I wanted, I don’t know if it was anything to do with putting in the fridge or I made an error with the temperature of the milk.

**Q: Instructions say to keep yoghurt starter in freezer. Does it have to be fully defrosted to use or can it be used straight from the freezer?**
A: The starter is freeze dried. Keep in the freezer and use straight from the freezer, no need to defrost

**Q: Would it work with non dairy milk?**
A: Yes, it works with non-dairy milks too

**Q: One review seems to say that more starter is required with new batches. Is this a heirloom yogurt starter able to perpetuate?**
A: This is a heirloom starter that you can perpetuate virtually indefinitely, confirmed. You will need about a cup of yogurt as starter for 2-3 litres of new milk. This is much more than the quarter of a teaspoon of fresh starter required to make the same volume -- this is what the review in question is describing.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tasty Yogurt
*by E***I on 3 December 2021*

This was my first time making yogurt at home; I used a rice cooker with a yogurt function which incubates the milk/bacteria mix for 8 hours at the right temperature. As soon as i opened the rice cooker lid I could smell the yogurt - it smells and tastes great.
