## Description

Similar to the Breville Smart Oven, but in a smaller, more compact design, this 1800-watt oven offers exceptional cooking convenience while taking up less space on the counter. The unit's 3/5-cubic-foot nonstick interior can accommodate a 12-inch pizza or four slices of bread at a time, while its push-button and turn-knob control panel makes it easy to program. Turn the control dial to select the function--options include Toast, Bagel, Bake, Roast, Broil, Pizza, Cookies, and Reheat. The oven's Element IQ "smart" sensor technology puts the power where it's needed most to ensure energy-efficient operation. For each of the eight pre-set functions, Element IQ automatically adjusts the power and calculates the cooking time. The time and temperature for the pre-set programs can also be manually adjusted to accommodate individual preferences--the oven will even remember the new settings for next time. Use the second control dial for setting the time (from one minute up to two hours) and for adjusting the temperature (from 120 to 450 degrees F), as well as for selecting the number of slices and for setting the toast shade, from light to dark. The control panel also offers a large start/cancel button, a defrost button for frozen foods, and a temperature-conversion button for recipes with cooking temperatures in Celsius. The oven's easy-to-read backlit LCD screen shows the current function, temperature, and adjustments made--plus it illuminates orange to indicate preheating and cooking, then blue to indicate the end of the cooking cycle. Other highlights include a tempered-glass door, three rack positions, and a front-access removable crumb tray for quick cleanup. Accessories include a 10-by-10-inch enamel baking pan and a 10-by-10-inch enamel broil rack. Attractively housed in coated steel with a strikingly modern design, the countertop oven measures 16-1/2 by 14-1/4 by 10 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Review: My 2nd Breville product purchase - This toaster oven is fantastic. I warmed two slices of bread for a sandwich. This toaster has degrees of toast for your bread. It was warmed perfectly to my liking, not brown, just warm. The bread came out of the refrigerator so it was cold so I used 2nd warming number. I have also used it on a frozen pasta dinner perfectly. It is very easy to use and heats up just the way you like it. There is no guessing. Made well and is easy to use. Just follow the start up instructions and you are good to go. My last toaster oven was good....but it doesn't hold a candle to this one. It also has a warming function for the top of the toaster. It's still new - but I am going to use this toaster oven often. Buy it with confidence.
Review: Good toaster oven - We had the much larger version of this oven and then our young adult child took it off to college. So we downsized to this model, much smaller and less expensive. I love it. I don't have any of the problems I read about it the reviews. My favorite thing about it is that it heats up fast. The cookie setting works well for cookies but you can only bake about 6 cookies at a time. I cut a silicone mat down to size and don't bother with a tray. Everyday my husband makes toast. But I guess I use it more for the other modes like bake, cookies, and reheating. If you are deciding between a bigger and smaller version, I will say that although this definitely looks smaller, you still end up using that whole section of counter. There is barely enough room in front of the oven to open the door and get your toast out, so it isn't like you are going to have a lot of empty space. I don't regret getting the smaller one but the bigger one we had before was able to bake a wider variety of pans and dishes. For this one, I have just a few special baking dishes that will fit.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: convection oven and toaster oven?**
A: No. $145+ Is not enough for Breville to offer a convection oven. They want $100 more to provide a crappy little fan that's going to stop working in a year or two. And to correct some of the design flaws that have plagued previous models, Breville wants us to pay $400 for the new and improved model. How about discontinuing this model, fixing your design flaws, and selling the new model for the same price? Yeah, I thought so!

**Q: Is the 15.5 width include the handle or is that just the oven?**
A: I measure my oven 16.75" across the width. The handle, which is the same width as the oven door, is about 13". Front to back, including the handle is about 15.5. Hope this helps.

**Q: does it come with a broilin pn?**
A: Yes the oven came with a broilin pn

**Q: What are interior deminesions?**
A: The interior dimensions of the BOV650XL Compact Smart Oven® are 12 inches wide by 5 & ½ inches high (with 4 & ¼ inches usable height) and 12 inches deep.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just great -- so well designed -- well except for a few unacceptable hot spots...
*by J***A on August 7, 2011*

I've been really reluctant to update my kitchen electronics because I love what I have so much. But age comes with time. I am reviewing here the toaster broiler oven but as background I just want to say: My 25 year old microwave finally gave out and I replaced it with the current version of that model despite the fact that all the reviews suggest that these microwaves give out after a couple of years -- no more couple of decades of use as when they first appeared on the scene. But I was so happy with how the features had improved over the last 25 years -- that just about everything I found irritating about my original microwave had been addressed and many things improved upon that I just been so pleased with having the new one. So my toaster broiler oven is also showing its age. It still works just fine but the paint is chipping, and it has some design flaws. We needed a 2nd one for a 2nd location so I figured it was time to move my current one to the second location and gamble on a new one. My positive experience with the microwave made me much more willing to do so. The Breville does not disappoint, it heats, cooks, broils, toasts everything so much better than my old one. The feature of the bamboo tray on top (purchased separately) is wonderful. Having the oven "pre-heat" to the desired temperature before sticking something in is also wonderful (Though I have not tested whether it does indeed get to the temperature it states. I am just starting to branch out from toast and broiling or simple cooking on the bake feature, like fish -- nothing as sophisticated as bread or pizza yet.) Everything of the limited range I do comes out sooo much better than with my old one. and the subtleties and variations of temperature and style of heating and having a time to set for cooking, etc. is wonderful. But 2 things I find problematic -- the unexpected hot spots -- you can indeed burn yourself is you touch certain parts -- and which parts they are is unexpected -- a corner here, a certain point there. I don't understand -- with all the cleverness and care of the design of features -- how hard could it be to put a little insulating or material that doesn't get so burning hot on the outside? The other issue is that it seems that the oven stays in "standby" mode all the time and you need to unplug it after use. Maybe someone can correct me, but I don't see a clock and the LCD screen stays lit with the temperature of the type of cooking on display 24 hours. That I find annoying but fortunately they have cleverly designed the plug with a hole so it is easy to pull out (see some of the pictures of the item to see what I mean.) Maybe that is safer anyway. SO despite these drawbacks -- even the serious one of somewhat dangerous hot spots -- the features are so wonderful, that I still give it 5 stars. However, if there would be children around or an aging parent, I would not keep it because of the hot spot potential to burn oneself. UPDATE: It's been about 2 months -- and I am even more in love with the Breville now. I appreciate a number of its features that were new to me -- the reheat option (as opposed to bake), the toasting is great. It took a while to get used to how slow everything is -- how long it takes to preheat to the desired temparature, how slowly even broiling takes. But it is worth developing the patience. Everything tastes so much more delicious properly cooked in this slower manner. And I was wrong about the LCD display light not going out; it does eventually. I am not sure how long because I haven't yet noticed when it happens. But I no longer pull out the plug to stop the light.
