I am an advanced hobby carpenter, but did not have the time to build one in my rare spare time. So I decided to buy one of these. It is made in the USA from treated pine (which is how I would have done my own, had I decided to make one). I highly doubt it is truly "Amish" as their furniture tends to use lots of old-school joinery and fine finish details. This swing instead uses modern Phillips head screws and and is designed and assembled like a moderately skilled carpenter would do, not a master crafstmas. That being said, it is so cheap and the quality sufficient that I think it's a great value for the price, and a very nice swing. I purchased an unfinished version because I wanted to paint it to match my house. Assembly was a breeze. The holes do not line up perfectly like a few other reviews noted, but that is expected with treated pine which warps and warps and warps even long after it's been dried out. Only complaint is that the supplied chains were a few inches too short for my 8 foot porch ceiling. I added some springs to lengthen them and that did the trick. It painted fine and was easy to hang and adjust with just one person (it's not that heavy).
