I do a lot of work with those with my friend Bill, they tend to dull fast and require frequent sharpening.** A: If it is anything other than a cheap katana... Do NOT use a stone on it! The blade came sharp, all it should ever require is honing with what amounts to talc and oil. The kits for sharpening a real katana can be purchased from several online stores - the good ones come directly from Japan. **Q: I have various knives wit different steels: SR 101, 1095, 1075, 420 HC, S30V. Will this sharpener be able to sharpen all of the steels above?** A: This works on all my stainless and high carbon knives and machetes. The ceramic side provides a super sharp edge, once you get it close with the carbide. The only thing I do that gets it sharper is the leather barber's strop with Turtle Wax rubbing compound. **Q: Which side is the corse and which is the fine?
