It boasts spring-assisted one-handed opening and a reliable piston lock for secure blade deployment. ## Description

Product Description Flick the Flash II – with either hand, mind you – and get 3.5” of AUS-8 stainless steel sliding from the handle so fast it makes the blade blur. Believe it. That’s thanks to SOG Assisted Technology (S.A.T.), a system of opposing high-tension springs that propels the blade open instantly once you give it a flick. From the Manufacturer The Flash II 3.5" Knife has got to be one of the coolest knives we’ve ever seen. Forget its wicked-quick blade access, that it handles like a race car on rails, or that it locks up like Alcatraz. It just looks and feels extraordinary. The Flash family of knives feature SOG Assisted Technology (S.A.T.), which employs a powerful piston lock that is easily released with a sliding button. The Flash I (1/2 serrated) comes with glass-reinforced Zytel handle and 1/2 serrated, black TiNi coated blade. All Flash knives come standard with SOG’s patent pending, reversible bayonet mounted clip that ensures the lowest, most discreet carry possible. We also had the foresight to incorporate an additional safety lock that gives added security when the blade is closed. Note that when the safety shows red... YOU ARE READY TO GO!

Review: Best EDC knife I've ever owned. - This is the best every day carry knife I've personally ever owned. As someone else said, the steel is not the best in the world, and that is my only issue with it; it is still very above-average quality steel though, and shows 0 signs of rust or corrosion, the metal is just softer than I think is optimal... D2 or something would make this knife a dream. I just have very high standards for the steel that my tools and guns are made of, and for the price, you won't find better in my opinion. Even for a brutal task, I believe it would hold up fine, though it would certainly need a sharpening; I still haven't had to sharpen mine in over a year. I think once or twice, EVER, the safety has engaged in my pocket unintentionally, probably from reaching to grab keys or something. It's not really as big of an issue as it's made out to be, I actually think it's quite a good design. In addition, there is no "stop bar" in the knife to stop the blade when closing, so you never get a dull spot on the blade. Also, the unlock-thumb-lever thing is an awesome addition; no more putting your thumb directly in the way of the blade to push that awkward and uncomfortable locking mechanism! When I first got it, I was REALLY sketched out by the plastic housing/handle, but just like my other SOG knives, it is extremely durable! Literally, not a single scratch after all the time I've owned it, which is amazing. Also, the black tini coating on the blade isn't only for looks; it is very durable, rather similar to the chemical coating on a Glock barrel, and does a very good job at preventing any glare or flash in the sun, if that concerns you. This knife in particular, in my opinion, is the perfect size for carrying always. It is very lightweight, has a very ergonomic design, and doesn't look flashy or cheesy. The blade is big enough for anything you might need it for, but small enough to be a realistic to stuff in a pocket. Honestly, it's so unnoticeable that I clip it in the pocket of my sweatpants if I'm lazy that day. I really love SOG knives, and for real work, camping, defense, etc., I also have 2 seal pup elites, partially serrated, in black tini which have also held up quite well. Loyal customer here, mostly due to the very good quality to cost ratio, from the research I have done. I like to own things that will last as long as I take care of them, and these knives do. Don't forget, they have lifetime warranties against manufacturer's defects; don't take that for granted!
Review: Nice knife - The SOG Flash II is my first assisted opener. I chose the plain blade version as I prefer a full edge on all my knives. First the picture of the knife is out of date. The knife I received has the SOG Arc Lock. Which is very nice and seems to be an improvement over the older version. Two of the serrated versions are pictured with this new Arc Lock models STGFSA-98 and SGFSA-98. The video of this knife also shows the rounded release knob. According to some videos I have seen the older style was more difficult to actuate the release to close the knife. So I am pleased to get the new version. Kicking the knife open with my thumb and closing it are both easy and without any excessive force required. The knife arrived with a decent edge. I was able to pop some hairs off my arm easily. However it is not ridiculously sharp so don't think you can shave yourself with the factory edge. It feels pretty good in my smaller hands except the cutout where the middle finger is supposed to rest is a bit deep for me so my middle finger floats above it if I grip the handle firmly. Still feels nice and secure though. Not sure about the safety feature though as it slides very easy and I could see it activating or deactivating with normal in and out of pocket use. I may use some superglue on it to keep it unlocked which I have read about as a simple solution. I don't see how the knife could possibly open in my jeans pocket. Roughly eyeballing the assisted opening it requires an inch or two of travel before the assist kicks in so I seriously doubt it could kick open in pocket. Besides the safety switch I am happy with this purchase. I wish they offered a plain blade version with the TiNi black coating and possibly aluminum handle. They have all kinds of options for the serrated combo edge but only one plain blade offering. Perhaps I am in the minority in preferring plain blades. As far as desertcart is concerned the packaging on this knife was poor. When I opened the box the SOG box was open on one end and the knife was literally outside the box and sliding around in the desertcart box partially out of the plastic baggie the knife was in. They need to package a bit better.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Made in America?**
A: One more thing. "ASSEMBLED IN AMERICAN" IN NOT THE SAME AS "MAKE IN AMERICA". The first thing assemble in America starts with is ASS. And, that's not good.

**Q: The product photos have different knifes, which model is it?**
A: I think all of the photos show the same knife, the Flash II, with partially serrated blade. From a certain angle, you can't see the serrations, looking down on the open knife, the serrations are evident on the left hand side of the blade (where it says SOG Flash II on the blade; slant the blade so it is almost perpendicular and the right side with the patent #, you can barely make out the serrations, but they are there.

**Q: is this engraveable ? the SOG website allows for engraving, but not sure if that can be done through amazon. thanks**
A: I did not require engraving for my purchased my knife, and like you stated, I do not see anywhere on Amazon's website where engraving is offered prior to shipment. Short of contacting Amazon directly to ask, my guess is the answer to your question is "no". Could you possibly get the knife engraved after you receive it? Good luck! Love the knife!

**Q: How much does it weight?**
A: I don't know the exact weight but it's not heavy at all. Its a bit long in the pocket but still comfortable to carry. I've had mine for quite some time now and it's held up very nicely. I say go for it if you are looking for an inexpensive knock around blade. Hope this helped and good luck.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent general purpose pocket knife for the money
*by E***B on March 20, 2015*

I'm not a knife aficionado or a knife collector, so my few knives are well used to do handy things, like opening letters and packages, cutting rope and string, and dozens of other jobs where a good knife is a useful tool. The assisted opening function works very well with a little practice. This is good since I often find that my other hand is busy doing something else I need done while I am trying to open my knife. The locking button works well and it has never opened in my pocket, which could be hazardous as well as difficult to remove from the pocket in a partly open state. It arrived in a razor sharp condition and cuts extremely well. A good sharpener and strop are needed to keep it in top cutting condition. These are not included but are available at many sporting goods stores, department stores, and on-line. I would buy and have bought this knife more than once. I gave one to my son as one of his Christmas presents and he likes his as much as I like mine. I recommend this knife to family, friends, and others interested in owning a good knife at a reasonable price.
