The tops are firmly bonded to the soles with no sign of any excess glue. They're lovely summer shoes and I think they're ideal for going to the beach or playing in the garden. Great for holidays. Any splashes and the mesh will dry quickly, but I'm not sure about total water immersion as I feel that the insoles would take a lot longer. It seems like a wonderful pair of shoes for a toddler for the summer season. And even though it says swim sandals, I wouldn't go that far with them. I got them for my girl's nursery. So she has a lightweight, breathable little shoes to play in thr garden on thr warm days. The sole is light and flexible, so it moves with the foot. The size is true and is slightly big for her, just like expected as I sized up a little bit for it to fit well for July-September. Also, she likes them too and calls it cute, which is always a win, as I want her to feel confident in her outfit.
