The "rug" is plastic but does the job. It is easy to wipe off and seems sturdy enough. It is definitely on the small side (4'x6'), so pay attention to the dimensions, but it fit nicely under two chairs and a small table. The rug reminds me of a beach mat and would wash easily as it is made of plastic but comfortable to walk on with bare feet. My dog sometimes hangs with me outside and is durable enough to stand up to her feet too! Nice neutral color and is reversible if needed.
