Yes, I have added ice to the water chamber. There is not an automatic shutoff so I am quite sure you would burn up the pump if you let it run dry. Also, you need to run the unit on fan only for at least 1/2 hour after usage to dry the membrane. Others have complained of their water smelling, but I’m sure it was the membrane from not being properly dried after use. I have mine plugged into a timer so that when I’m finished with it and turn it to fan only, it shuts off automatically after 1/2 hour. **Q: How do you install the casters? Past the tip there’s is a ring that prevents me from inserting them completely. What am I missing?** A: Place the wheels with the "brake" in the front of the unit. The tab to pull on is too narrow to grasp.** A: You don't grasp the tab you push down on it with your thumb. The door will rotate out. **Q: How long will it run before the water runs out?** A: It depends a bit on the humidity, the lower the humidity in the air you are pulling in the faster water can evaporate. On hot dry 20ish % humidity days with the fan on high I get about 4 hours before the water level reaches the bottom of the water level window (but after this point it has maybe a gallon left in it, I assume to protect the pump from running dry).
