This is designed to keep something at a certain temp? So the hot end i see heats up between the specific temps listed?** A: The silver probe tip is the temperature sensor itself. That's what detects the temperature of what ever you are monitoring. When it's above the High temp setting (red) the relay contacts K1 and K0 close so that would activate a fan or what ever you want to monitor. Depending on how you have it setup, if the temp gets below the Low (green) temp, then the relay contacts (K0/K1) open to shut off any cooling you might have running. **Q: Can the relay be driven by 5V DC?** A: As the description says, the board itself is driven by 5v which powers the relay. It says the unit works on 5vdc. After hooking it up using a 12volt battery and on a solar charger, when the battery voltage drops below 12volts the unit shuts off. If it operates at 5volts, it should still display the temp readings on the display. I’ve tested several times and sure enough, when battery drops below 12volts the unit shuts off.
