It's not too rough and won't cut your knuckles when punching it the first time like a lot of bags on the market, however, Im not suggesting that you punch it a hundred times without gloves. It's heavy enough not to go all over the place when hit but I did attach a bottom bungee cord to it and that feature works great and is not on every bag out there. Perfect! Wasn't sure if we should get or not but it has been great! Adult son who loves martial arts LOVES it. Our autistic daughter who likes to use it occasionally even enjoys it. It is strong and held up really well. No splitting or anything. I would buy it again if it even gave out!
