Smart alternators vary the voltage to save energy so to accomodate that the DC charger won't disconnect until voltage drops pretty low. It watched it continuing to charge my house battery after the engine was shut off for a minute or so until the voltage hit 11.8. It quickly recovered back to 12.5 but I don't like that. I don't think the optional IGN wire would help because it only ensures charging continues if voltage drops a bit. Whether you connect it or not, it does not stop charging, it only ensure charging continues under lower voltages. And there is no dedicated power button. If I don't add a power cutoff it will pull power out of my starter battery every time I shut off the van until it hits its lower cutoff voltage. The other problem the lower voltage disconnect causes is I can't use a separate small trickle charger on my starter battery for when the RV sits most of the time. Otherwise the trickle charger will likely trigger DC to DC charging.. A dedicated shutoff should solve most of my issues which will be good anyway to prevent it from trying to charge my lithium battery below freezing. I was also going to lower the max charging to 20 amps but you need to buy the bluetooth module in order to change that setting. Ideally it should be built in. This seems well made but I am having to figure workarounds for my situation, and my situation isn't that unique.
