Sometimes my 4 year old will sleep with me on a twin size, though I am really small for an adult. I bought this because I was bothered by the size of typical western beds. I had previously slept in a full size bed, but found that I was tossing and turning too much to get a good night sleep, it also took up so much of the room that I didn't have space for a desk or bookshelves. Having a futon that I can roll up during the day allows me to have the space to use the space for other things during the day, and then when those are put away, I can lay out the futon and go to sleep. As a side note, I highly suggest a waterproof mattress pad if you have kids, it's help save the futon from a few spills (long enough that I can take care of the spill).
