Review: specs - specifications - for Carter P4070 electric fuel pump - Update 24 sept 13: I finally got around to using the pump to transfer fuel from barrels to an aircraft. The 1.2 gpm flow rate is a bit leisurely for a 50 gallon transfer, but better control than the 30 gpm mess I experienced with pumps designed for truck-mounted tanks that have real gas-station hoses and nozzle. The pump came with two brass 3/8" hose barbs that thread into the pump. The electrical connectors are just un-threaded studs, so you must use their proprietary push-on connectors, which are included with a retaining clip. Lose any of it and you are dead in the water. Tom From various places on the web and the installation manual I found that the Carter P4070 pump specs are: Free Flow Rate: 72 gph Maximum Pressure (psi): 6 psi Inlet Size: 1/4 in. Apparently the pump and motor flood with fuel for cooling, which makes it sensitive to contamination from water, rust and crud. The pump in the box weights exactly 3 lb. These universal rotary vane electric fuel pumps from Carter operate with leaded and unleaded gasoline, gasohol, and fuel boosters. (There is no mention of diesel, but Diesel blog members report great success using the P4070 as a lift pump from the tank to the high pressure fuel pump). They have an internal pressure-regulating valve, and feature free-flow fuel delivery. These pumps have no points to burn out, and no shaft seals to leak or deteriorate. Easy to install, these universal fuel pumps come with a complete installation package and instructions. Review: So far so good. So far so LOUD. - Just got it installed and it's working better than the Mr. Gasket pump I had on there. HOWEVER. This thing is -loud-. Have it mounted to the tub on my CJ5 and it's easily 2-3 louder than the other electric fuel pumps I've had mounted in the same location. That said, I have a 304 v8 with headers and side pipes so that drowns out the noise pretty well. As long as it works I can absolutely deal with the noise. Will update after I get it on the road. ***Don't judge me on the mess of wires, wanted to mock it up to make sure it's what I needed before tidying up!***

**Q: Does the orientation matter?  The pump I am replacing is mounted with the anchor bolts pointed down.**
A: Yes the Carter's are all designed to be mounted from the top. They are cooled by fuel around the motor.

**Q: Does it come with the bracket and fittings**
A: Definitely came with bracket and rubber mount bushings.  I don't recall if it came with fittings, I believe it did come with straight fittings, but I needed to buy 90 degree fittings.  Seems like a nice heavy pump.  Installed on 440 Dodge motohome.  Just use it to get it started after long term storage and in emergencies-t at carb. Run off engine fuel pump.

**Q: will it need a return line and is it self priming?**
A: it is self priming and direct feed - i used it as an Onan replacement and it functioned flawlessly- there is no return line from the generator back to the the tank so I am gonna say no on the 1st part...

Just got it installed and it's working better than the Mr. Gasket pump I had on there. HOWEVER. This thing is -loud-. Great fuel pump running on my 1977 El Camino with a 355 engine mounted above the tank have had it for 2 years daily driver no issues wish they would come back in stock so I can purchase for my other car vehicles holds right at 6 1/2 pounds with a few regulator Edelbrock carburetor
