Review: These are all my tips, it’s a great monitor, but it was a bit of a learning curve - If you’re using this to have a color accurate reference monitor by using a deck link mini monitor 4K or something similar, be sure to use displayCal and set the monitor to its rec709 color space before correcting (it’s also suggested to first color correct your monitor using asus pro calibration while plugged into your GPU prior to hooking up to your deck link and then calibrating through resolve/display cal). The native color space uses a wide gamut and it will not look correct if you’re trying to apply rec709 correction through DaVinci resolve/ display cal. I was very unsure of which color space I wanted to have the monitor preset on as there’s not a lot of information on this, but after quite a bit of research, it’s suggested to not use the native preset at all for grading as it’s their least accurate preset. Unless you’re planing on using this monitor for HDR grading then you probably know what you’re doing, if not, it’s more or less the same. Overall fantastic monitor, be sure to use a flash drive to update to the latest firmware which you can find on the asus website. Mine was three versions Old, the latest firmware fixes the very loud fan noise (which is silent now), and some other fixes. Keep in mind if you’re not using the Thunderbolt and are only using HDMI you will need to run a USB-C to your computer in order for the firmware update to work. As you can tell this monitor was a bit of a learning curve for me and I’m trying to include all the tips I can remember just in case this is your first monitor like this. It’s 100% worth buying, I had an older LED pro art And that doesn’t even come close to how beautifully accurate this monitor is. I was in the middle of several projects and went back through and made quite a few changes and it helped immensely. 100% recommend even if you’re planning on using this for simpler work and you don’t need the accuracy of a true reference monitor. ### ⭐ Not really viable

Image quality and general features are good. Unfortunately, the monitor has a couple of major negatives... Lack of DisplayPort proved to be quite a hassle. Had to jump through hoops to find a performant bidirectional DisplayPort/Thunderbolt cable (thank you, UGreen), but ultimately everything seems to work. An even nastier idiosyncrasy of this monitor is that it enters into an "initialization" mode, completely randomly/dynamically, with literally about 3 seconds warning and no way I can find for the user to cancel, which results in an unresponsive black screen for several minutes. I have to power cycle the monitor in the middle of whatever I am doing to break out of this. This is essentially a complete show-stopper for gaming. I have found no option in the configuration menu for the monitor that permits me to trigger "Initialization" proactively (which I would be happy to do as part of my usual power-up/login routine, if it meant I would NOT have to deal with this involuntarily). ASUS may have addressed the "involuntary" nature of this "feature" in firmware, somehow. I intend to update firmware at some point, but ASUS seems to prefer that their firmware process remain a mystery... having problems finding a clear/coherent step-by-step guide for doing this. I expect I will just have to trial/error my way through it. Assuming I can sort out how to do this, and it has any beneficial effect on "initialization", I will revise my review here to document the results. This will be the first/last/only monitor I will buy that does not offer DisplayPort... and possibly the last ASUS monitor I will buy until they get their quality control issues resolved (too many horror stories in the reviews of recent products). Especially at a $1800 price-point (I paid much less for mine, don't know why the price has spiked), I think there are other/better options. And if I can't find a workaround for this involuntary "Initialization" mechanism, it may be the last ASUS monitor of any kind that I buy, ever. At the very least, I will want to wait and watch, and verify that this "feature" does not exist in future ASUS products, before buying.
