I do not believe this would fit in the front of a shopping cart. It would fit in the big main area but not up front. **Q: Does this have a wood bottom similar to the devoted doggy deluxe dog car seat, dog booster seat fits pets up to 15lbs?, padded cushioning** A: I am unfamiliar with the "Devoted Doggy Deluxe" car seat, but the MARSLABO seat has a very solid base. Not sure of material, as I have it assembled and don't want to take it apart. It also has a separate pad for the bottom of seat that is fleece on one side. I also scrunch up a soft blanket for my pup, as he likes to have a fluffy bed. My dog weighs 14 pounds and it holds him just fine. I couldn't be happier with this seat.
