One side is flush to the inside rim. The other side does not reach to the sidewall of its tire. For my hand truck I needed to buy 1" of spacers to keep the tire from rubbing against the truck. As a side note while the rim is split (and held with 4 bolts) the bearing tube/hub is not separate but is welded to one half of the rim. Skinny compared to the old inflated wheel too.
