Do you turn off the mat when not in use?** A: We do not turn off the mat. It is hard to get to, as it is in a pocket at the edge of the mat. You may be able to, but I would fear of forgetting to turn it on, and rendering it useless if you need it. The receiving unit we turn the alarm off. The adapter is well worth it for the receiving unit. **Q: How much weight has to be applied before the alarm goes off?** A: Not much pressure is required to set off the alarm but it does seem to be "delayed" by about five to ten seconds. If your "patient" moves fairly quickly they may be already out the door before you can get to them. I also found after using this mat a couple of weeks that the alarm did not always sound. I don't know if the mat was defective or the wireless signal was faulty.
