Review: Great kayak, not so great post-purchase support. (Solved). - The Colorado inflatable fishing kayak exceeded my wildest expectations. I had only used hard body kayaks prior to this boat, and didn't think that an inflatable would actually work just as good. It's extremely durable--I've landed this boat on a rocky beach, dragged it down a rough cement ramp, and hit a few underwater branches, all with no problems. The underside is SUPER strong. The material on top seems strong as well, though it has not been tested. It's very easy to set up. It takes about 10 minutes to get it into the water if you use an electric pump, which I do recommend that you do because you don't want to be exhausted from pumping before making your first paddle. It does take longer to deflate and pack--it's not hard, just requires time to dry out completely. It tracks well when paddling, though it is a bit slow. Also, wind can be a bit of a pain due to the profile of the kayak, making an anchor a MUST for fishing. I take one star off because after-purchase support is poor. Sevylor, as far as I understand, doesn't exist as an independent company anymore. At least in the U.S., you have to go to Coleman for any support inquiries. It's now been over a month since my purchase, and I STILL can't get a Bill of Sale and Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) in order to register my boat, a requirement if you want to use a trolling motor in most states. Overall, I highly recommend this boat if (1) you want a kayak but (2) you don't have the space for a rigid body kayak, and (3) if you want to be fishing on it. If you're not into fishing, there are probably cheaper alternatives out there without the bells and whistles. Edit: Coleman eventually helped me out and I got the boat registered to the satisfaction of my state government.
Review: Excellent..... brilliant!!! - My son and I took the Colorado kayak out today for the first time. I got it for him so we could do some bass fishing. We had approx. 400 pounds in the kayak (two grown men, life preservers, etc.... no tackle as this was a test run to see how it performed). We embarked in about 6 inches of water without touching bottom. Once we figured out its characteristics we were able track it in a straight line with each of us rowing from opposite sides. Without hurrying, we crossed a 1/4 mile lake in about 10 minutes, we decided a motor would not be needed because the battery weight would probably bump up against the weight limit. It glides very nicely across the water rowing. Wind did make a difference in its tracking, I would not recommend setting out when it's very windy. We dealt with 10 mile an hour gusts with no real issue. It's very easy to paddle even though the sides are pretty high. We spent three hours on the water and only pulled in because we felt the effects of sunburn. Neither of us were tired even though we did a lot of paddling. There is plenty of space for preservers and tackle (especially if you don't have a battery box), plenty of webbed areas for holding smaller items. Very stable, not tippy at all. Seats offer good support but will need to be occasionally adjusted (once I found the right support, I only needed to adjust it once more in a couple of hours of paddling. My only concern was there was about a half cup of standing water on the deck when we pulled in, it may have been due to residual water from passing the oars over the bow, dripping into the interior. I read another review that said if the cells are not inflated enough it might leak.... I'm thinking the deck may have been under inflated. The amount of water on the deck was not noticeable while we were underway, we only found it when we pulled ashore. My shoulder hurts from patting myself on the back for making this purchase, I wish I would have done it 40 years ago.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does anyone have a trolling motor attached to this? How easy is it to setup?**
A: I have a trolling motor setup that I use on my Colorado kayak. I know that Sevylor sells a trolling motor and battery that fits this boat's "trolling motor mount" but it is a very small motor and mount with not much power and the battery won't last very long. This boat can hold up to 470lbs and is designed to be fished and hunted in all day. A small motor that only runs for an hour isn't what I was looking for. So I ended up purchasing a Minn Kota Endura 30lb thrust trolling motor and a 100amphour group 27 AGM battery. (Both from amazon) This motor and battery is not designed for an inflatable kayak so if you wanted to go this route, you'd have to build your own mount, which is what I did. You may also be able to purchase a motor mount that would work. A few notes that I learned through this process:1) The battery is what matters most. It weighs the most (mine is almost 60lbs which takes away from my boats weight capacity), it cost the most and it determines how long you can stay out on the water between charges. My battery/motor combination moves this boat at 3-5mph with 2 adults on board at the highest speed on the trolling motor for 8-10hours. That's a 2 day fishing trip. 2) The battery's AMP HOURS determines how many amps the motor can draw over so many hours. For instance... The minn Kota Endura 30 has an amp draw of 10-13amps per hour of running. My 100amp hour battery supplies that 10-13 amps each hour for 8-10 hours before I need to recharge. Had I bought a 200amp hour battery theoretically I should be able to go twice as long between recharges. 3) You can buy a cheap automotive battery for $99 but you should expect to replace it every year and I wouldn't rely on one in an inflatable. Or you can buy an AGM battery which is higher quality, will last 5-10 years with proper maintenance, and is less likely to fail on you when you need it. If piece of mind and time on the water is your primary concern then go with an AGM of at least 80amphours. If cost is your factor then go with an everstart deep cycle. 4) The weight of the trolling motor must be offset. If you just hang a 17lb motor off the side of your boat, it's going to ride funny in the water dipping down on the motor side. My solution was to build an anchor holder and winch on the opposite side of my motor mount which balanced the weight of the trolling motor on the other side. I have seen a motor mount with a "ballast" (heavy piece on metal) to offset the motor weight. This particular mount was metal and fit into the fishing pole holders on the back of the boat. 5) You need the boat, motor, mount, battery, power center (battery box), and a good battery charger. My final thoughts: I love this boat. I have been fishing in the California Sierras from Pinecrest to Shasta and it is a great boat and a lot of fun to customize and enjoy. I like it so much I recently bought a second boat for friends and family who visit. It's a fantastic kayak as it is but it's even more fun with a nice powerful motor/battery pushing it. My girlfriend and I call it the Trout-slayer. It's a silent stalker and the fish don't even know you're there.

**Q: can I firmly set up 'Coleman Motor Mount' with this ??**
A: I would suggest buying this motor: http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-12V-Electric-Trolling-Motor/dp/B003659THG/ref=sr_1_2?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1434470976&sr=1-2&keywords=sevylor+trolling+motor&pebp=1434470982639&perid=1HEN9B9D2FYKHTN7WSHMIt fits on the boat with no need for a mount.

**Q: does it come with paddles and pump?**
A: No it's does not come with a paddle or pump.

**Q: How difficult is it to paddle with the mounts? We want to use this for both fishing and relaxing in our lake.**
A: For me, the mounts get in the way. I sit or lean forward or aft of the mounts and paddle with a standard kayak paddle. It paddles easily, just be sure to get the proper length paddle according to your height and kayak width. I recommend a 250 cm length - it is a wide kayak. This kayak is great for relaxing and fishing - just be careful of the hooks inside the boat (outside has a great nylon cover, the inside is exposed and susceptible to sharp objects).

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Truly a compact Kayak/Canoe
*by M***. on June 5, 2020*

Let's get the negative out of the way first. The first one shipped had a small hole in the tarpoline bottom at a seam. it floated fine but everything in the boat got wet, I was sitting in about 2 inches of water.(They sent me a new one got it in about 2 days, Kudos there), paddling is cumbersome if you have the fishing pole holders in even without poles they get in the way. I wish that there was a way to sit higher, after a while i feel like my butt slides down and im laying in it vs sitting. Ok enough of the negativity, I gave this thing 4 star rating , I have had it out a number of times, it so easy to set up and tear down and it fits in my car with ease, I would call it a hybrid Canoe not a kayak but it serves its purpose gets me in places and lets me fish where i could not . Im still getting use to fishing out of it but the experience has been great. Im a big guy 6'3" 270. this thing handles my size and weight just fine, even when my son is in it its fine a little cramped but Im tall and big. getting in and out not nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. There are not really a lot of Modification videos online for the Colorado, nearly none. but I am working on some Mods, Milk crate is a must...I did that already helps keeps things neat and allows me to put poles behind me out of the way make paddling so much better. Im working on a insert floor so I can do some things I have seen in videos for other type of Kayaks. If you dont have the ability to transport a regular kayak or you have a storage issue, the Colorado is a very good options.
