The issue is that the top of the rear door on the XC's is made of extremely brittle fiberglass that can crack if anything (i.e. metal hooks or bike rack straps) is placed in the seem at the top of the rear door. So if someone was so inclined they could remove the rack and locked bike as one unit. It would take some time and probably look suspicious while they did it.
