The mic does have a built-in preamp which requires power, but that is supplied by either the mixer through Phantom Power, or through an external, separate Phantom supply. Great mic and great value btw. I have a few of them in use. **Q: Does this come with a rubber vibration/sound absorbing base?** A: No it does not. We ordered the Shure CVD-B XLR Desktop Base, 12-Inch Cable (Black) to use with this microphone. The XLR desktop base does have a rubber vibration absorbing finish on the bottom. **Q: Why does this say it requires lithium ion batteries? I thought it used phantom?** A: It does use phantom power. The desktop base does not contain any power and does not have an on/off switch. I have seen other vendor bases sold separately that do contain an on/off switch. Perhaps one of these bases may utilize lithium ion batteries for some purpose. **Q: What size hole would you need to drill to run a cable through the podium if using the included mount?** A: I believe I used an 1” to 1-1/4” hole. This is good or bad depending on your use case. Previously, we were able to detach the mic when not in use, but this also contributed to the mic being a bit loose in the stand.
