Antacids may interfere with certain prescription medication. **Q: how long does it take to work?** A: For me: no more than thirty minutes. I try not to take it too often as it affects my thyroid (I have hypothyroidism). It doesn't keep me awake. As an alternative you can try 3000mg of cinnamon (in 1000mg capsules here on Amazon). Also try ginger root, pickled ginger, Kimchi, or vinegar (unseasoned rice vinegar is the mildest). Oddly enough if you have acid reflux or GERD the above-mentioned products work quite well. Taking the cinnamon before a heartburn meal significantly reduces acid reflux for me.
