Review: A Must Have for Tatted Snowflakes - This is my first time using an actual stiffener, while I have used Aleene's Tacky Glue in the past to stiffen crocheted snowflakes, I wanted to try something different since my tatted snowflakes have beads and the tacky blue always seemed to leave a slight film. This does smell and look like white glue, but there is something dramatically different with this product. When I tried it out full strength, I was completely shocked to see that not only didn't it stiffen the flakes perfectly, what little product I had on my hands took a little bit of work to remove. My main concern, however, was whether or not it would leave a film on my beads and again, I was shocked to see that the clarity of the beads did not diminish in the slightest. I have not attempted a test on my Swarovski or Austrian crystals as of the time of this review, I will post my findings once I have completed that test, but glass seed beads passed the test with flying colors. I have a slight suggestion when using this product, while the majority of users suggest pouring some into a bowl and then dunking the fabric into the stiffener, wringing it out and then blocking the item, I would strong suggest that you don't for crocheted or tatted items. The best way that I have found is pour some into a bowl with a 50% dilution rate, then use a paint brush to apply the stiffener to the item. I feel the dunk and wring method would lead to too much waste and it would get all over your hands and work station; by painting it on, you reduce your waste, clean up is a breeze and you don't run the risk of distorting your item by squeezing and wringing it. You can then pin your item to whatever board you use if it is necessary and allow it to block to dry. Drying time is dependent on environmental factors, temperature and humidity. Both days I've used this was cool and slightly damp, all my flakes were completely dry and stiffened within 6 to 8 hours of application. Overall, this is a phenomenal product and coming from Aleene's, it should really be a no-brainer as to the quality you're getting. How I've done crocheted snowflakes in the past without using this stiffener is beyond me, but I have it now and it will be a permanent staple in my crafting cabinet. If you try my paint brush method, an 8oz. bottle will last you quite a while, so the price is extremely reasonable and you will absolutely get your money's worth. Hit the buy button, you won't be disappointed.
Review: The perfect stiffener for scale model projects - This fabric stiffener is a great product. I have used it to stiffen paper and cloth type material for my scale models. It provides a wonderfully firm, durable finish that dries completely clear. I was especially impressed that it left absolutely no film on my projects, which is a huge advantage over other methods. I apply it straight out of the bottle with a small paintbrush. This gives you great control and helps you to keep the shape. I have seen that some reviewers believe it’s almost the same as PVA glue (white glue) but when I use PVA glue for my use case I can’t apply any weathering (acrylic or pigments) on top of it as easy without the shape being affected. With Aleene's fabric stiffener it holds the form and creates a good surface to apply weathering or paint.

## Features

- POUR-ON APPLICATION FOR FULL FABRIC SATURATION: Liquid formula is designed to be poured, dipped, or brushed onto fabric for complete saturation and even stiffening. Ideal for shaping and draping projects that require hands-on control.
- ADJUSTABLE HOLD WITH FAST DRY TIME: Dries clear in approximately 1 hour depending on fabric type and humidity. Formula can be thinned with water for softer hold or layered for increased stiffness. Final stiffness may vary by application.
- DRIES CLEAR & MAINTAINS FABRIC APPEARANCE: Clear-drying formula preserves the original color and look of fabrics while holding shapes in place. Suitable for bows, lace, ribbons, cheesecloth, trims, and decorative craft fabrics. Always test before full use.
- WASHABLE & RE-SHAPABLE FINISH: Washes out with warm water, allowing projects to be reshaped or reused. Designed for temporary fabric stiffening and draping rather than permanent hold.
- IMPORTANT USE GUIDANCE: Fully saturate fabric by dipping or pouring, then squeeze out excess liquid before shaping. Allow fabric to air dry completely before handling. Protect work surfaces and wear gloves during use. Humidity and fabric thickness may affect dry time and stiffness.
- Nontoxic formula is safe and easy to use.
- While considered permanent, humidity may affect dry time and stiffness.
- Available in an 8oz bottle

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Im looking to stiffin my crochet sun hat... is it true like the review says that its doesnt dry clear?**
A: It drys clear as long as you don't over do it. You would have to try it so you can see if you like the look. I would recommend buying a small bottle first I am not sure about yarn but material works fine.

**Q: Weird question, but would this work to stiffen up a nearly empty toilet paper roll with a square of paper hanging down from the roll?**
A: I'm sure it will, but you would have to be careful in applying the product. Try to hold the roll vertical with the tissue hanging down and then hang it to dry by using a dowel fastened by a vice of some sort so the top part of the roll is horizontal. I love this product and have used it with paper before.

**Q: What is the difference between this product and Aleene's Stiffen Quik?**
A: The first and obvious difference between the two products is the application method. Aleene's Fabric Stiffener & Draping Liquid is a soaking application and Stiffen Quik is applied with a spray pump. The second difference is that Aleene's Fabric Stiffener & Draping Liquid contains two polymers (two glues) and Aleene's Stiffen Quik contains one polymer (one glue). Stiffen Quik penetrates into fabric or other porous surfaces better than Fabric Stiffener. But ounce for ounce Fabric Stiffener provides more stiffening power.

**Q: We would like to use this outdoors. Is it fairly waterproof?**
A: This item is not waterproof, and will wash off with water alone. We only recommend this on indoor non washable projects. If you have any further inquiries, please contact iLoveToCreate at info@ilovetocreate.com or call 1-800-438-6226.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing for Crochet Toys Eye Attachment
*by K***W on August 15, 2025*

I love Arlene's Fabric Glue. I crochet - I make animals, dolls, toys, etc. Since many are for small children, I do not use plastic eyes as they are a choking hazard. So I make felt eyes and other features and stick them on with Arlene's. I never later change my mind about placement because this glue does not let go! That's why I use it and why I make sure where I am placing the little eyeball before I add the glue. None of the new owners of my dragons or forest creatures have ever returned their toy for ophthalmology issues, so I know the glue works for sticking felt to yarn. I swear by it.
