I'm not good enough to know the difference in practice though and just find it annoying. **Q: I was hoping you'd have one with a curved blade for baguettes. Might you make one in the future?** A: Hi Darla, Thanks for your interest in the lame. You’re in luck. This lame IS curved. I realize that it is not obvious by the pictures. My mistake. I will have to add another picture in the near future that makes it obvious. Thanks for pointing that out. Also, it was recently brought to my attention that if you add a small washer (or two) under the blade, the lame can quickly and easily become a straight blade lame. It’s like having two lames in one. The whole lame, including the Thumbscrew or Thumbnut is made of food grade 430 Stainless steel. Therefore, it can be placed in the dishwasher. A fully stainless lame was one of my design criteria as I am not a fan of plastic or wood utensils. With that in mind, I can say that I do not put my lame in the dishwasher for a couple reasons. - It typically does not really get very dirty so I just wipe it off - things in the dishwasher get bounced around and the blade could get dulled by hitting other things But, its your choice. It comes with a sturdy case so there’s no risk of getting cut when stored, keeping your fingers safe. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Really good, with some room for improvement *by L***H on July 2, 2020* As others are saying, this is a very high quality product and I think it will be around and still beautiful long after I'm gone. It's my first lame, so I can't compare it to others, but it definitely is sturdy and gets the job done. I have some minor complaints about it, where I think it could be improved: 1) The plastic storage box it came in is incredibly flimsy, and even though there is an arrow indicating that you should slide the lid off horizontally and little guides/indentations on the sides as though that is the only way to open it, it's so thin that the lid can simply be pulled straight off (upwards, not sliding it) and it kind of falls off when handled. I wouldn't trust this box to stay together if I was going to pack it for travel. Compared to the lame which is so beautiful and sturdy, the box is wimpy, unprotective, and low quality (although the foam insert is nice). 2) Occasionally, I feel like the screw-on cap that holds the blade in place is in the way. Depending on the angle of your work, it might poke into your dough. This wouldn't be an issue with a traditional lame. Mostly it's not an issue, but it could be, depending on what you are doing, especially because it's sticking out on the side of the curve, which means it's always pointing down at your dough. 3) I do wish that the handle had some sculpting so that it's not just totally smooth and potentially slippery.
