Farber; it's a fairly common one! Fish are very similar to other animal species in regards to nutrition. You have carnivores (cichlids), omnivores (majority such as tetras, gouramis, barbs, catfish), and vegetarians (plecostomus and other algae eating fish, mollies, severums) so what you feed your tank will really depend on the types of fish you are housing. Most tanks have a mix of the various types, and one type of food might not meet all of their needs. So for example, if you have tetras, mollies, and catfish or algae eaters, you would want flakes or granules for the tetras, along with Tetra Veggie Flakes for the mollies, and a sinking tablet for the catfish or algae eaters. However, if your tank only houses large cichlids, you could easily just feed a Tetra Cichlid food of the correct size and shape for the types of cichlids you own, and not another food source. Many fish do better with supplemental foods added to the diet, however, such as freeze dried bloodworms or shrimp. Whatever you feed, make sure you feed twice a day, only what they can eat within 30 seconds or less. If the food is able to drift down far enough in the tank the fish do not get it, you are feeding too much.
