Review: Great For Cats, Ferrets, and Small Dogs - Expensive 'high quality' cat foods are the equal in price to many canned meats. The issue with canned meats is that often A LOT of salt is added. And that much salt is never good for any creature (humans or pets). I don't really like a lot of commercial pet foods. They have odd preservatives, bi-products, and often have some sort of additive from china. So I needed an alternative canned meat food with no salt. Our local store in my rural Alaskan village does not sell canned meats with no salt. And on desertcart- I'll admit the price of these was very expensive. But the price of these cans were also comparable to expensive pet food brands. And I'd rather opt for human-quality food for the same price. So I bought these cans. The cans come exactly as they say. Chunked WHITE chicken breast in water with no salt added. These cans would be amazing for baby food. I've pureed this food multiple times for my ferrets and they love it. My cats adore it. I often mix in a bit of raw egg as a 'sauce'. They eat it up. The cans come about 3/4 full of meat, with 1/4 water added. I've tried a bit myself. The chicken has a really nice taste- and you can tell it really is breast meat. It's quality white meat. Very good. And I love that there's no salt added. I think it makes it taste even better. And then you can judge how much seasoning you want to add on your own, rather than the canners deciding for you. The ingredients on this can literally just include "chicken meat, water, corn starch". The corn starch creates kind of a thick sauce out of the water. It's safe for animals to eat- as well as humans. I keep the sauce rather than drain it, when pureeing this food. It helps get a smoother texture. If you were going to use these cans for baby food I suggest keeping the sauce with the chicken. It purees really nicely. The chunk size is perfect for cats, small dogs, and ferrets. And I HIGHLY recommend this canned food for the purpose as a pet-food supplement. Add in a bit of raw egg for extra protein, and a 1/8th teaspoon of bone meal and you have a super high quality meal for your little furry children.

A: People are reading the info incorrectly. There are 240mg of sodium per serving and 80mg of cholesterol.

**Q: what is the shelf life on sealed canned chicken like this?**
A: I am not sure of the expiration date on our cans, but items that are canned like this will last many, many years.  We keep canned goods like this in our emergency food supply.  When we had to actually go into our emergency stock, following Hurricane Andrew in Baton Rouge, we ate some canned tuna and some chicken that were several years old, and they were fine.

**Q: It states no salt added, so why is there sodium in this ?**
A: We do not add additional salt to the Hormel® Premium No Salt Added Canned Chunk Chicken Breast in Water 5 ounce. The salt you see in the ingredients panel is naturally occurring in the product.

**Q: What Does It Taste Like?**
A: It tastes like chicken breast meat...  Which is what it is.  Flavor is great.  I use it to flavor rice, noodles, white chili, etc., as well as sandwich spreads and salads.

I've had this product before. It's OK. No salt added products are not the tastiest, but it is protein and does the job. It's hard to find no salt added canned chicken breast and this was only available in a case (12 cans). So it's a large box, costs a lot, and hard to store, BUT it does have a good expiration date and eventually I'll go through them.
