It breaks down into hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate (baking powder). The hydrogen peroxide decomposes to oxygen and water. So it is safe for the environment because it leaves no lasting residue that is dangerous. It should be OK for a dishwasher. The hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate should be less corrosive that the chlorine and detergents they use for dishwasher detergent. **Q: Is there a reason to use this over Oxi clean? Isn't the ingredient the same thing?** A: I wondered the same thing. OxiClean comes out to roughly $2.30 an ounce. If this is more effective or diluted that would be good to know but I can't seem to get a direct answer. I can only find that it's perhaps half diluted compared to OxiClean. I wish someone with some chemical knowledge could drop in and answer this. **Q: Is this product testsd on animals?** A: The question of whether a product has been tested on animals is more complicated than is commonly understood.
