I can also wear 8s. I'm pretty much not a 9M. I ordered a 9 per an earlier recommendation. Calves are measuring a hair over 15" today. If wearing a tight or a spandex type legging, I think these are a good calf size. But today tried them on again with a jegging (thicker than reg legging as it is jean material). Too tight, really. And the 9 was loose in the heal. The tightest part of the boot was at mid-calf, leaving the very top opening a little room away from calf. I liked that at the top. I was hoping to wear boot socks with theses boots, but, I'm pretty certain that wouldn't be an option. (Side note: I also ordered a black riding boot "blogger harness" from 9west on this site. It was an 8.5M Widecalf and I was still able to zip up over the calf. Not that much more snug in the calf, but the shoe part fit better. A little snug on my widish foot, but I'm certain it would stretch to perfect. Heel not loose.Finish opinion:I really love this look. I also really like the leather. Soft, but not slouchy. With the calf being tight on me, the leather might have settled a little more if I had smaller calves.My four star rating is because I love the style and the leather. I've found very few boots that actually zip over my calf. For years I quit even looking. But these fit like other pairs I own and I've come to accept that super loose won't easily happen. Unfortunately I am returning these because as cute as they are, I've opted to keep two other pairs I have that are solid colors since this one may end up too trendy.My final rec: Measure your calves. Order your regular size with the wide calf option. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Very cute but not wide calf *by P***R on July 20, 2015* These are NOT wide calf. I am on the boarder between needing wide calf and fitting into the regular boots, but I often prefer wide calf boots so that I have the extra room for jeans, etc without the boot becoming excessively tight. I couldn't even zip this without any pants on. I do love the color and look of the boot, and it was high quality material. I personally hate having to return things so I read descriptions and reviews very detailed before I order anything. I read the complaints that these aren't really wide calf, but given my being on cusp, I thought they would work for me. Wrong. I feel calling them "wide calf" is misleading and ended up wasting my time ordering them and then having to then package it all back up and make a trip to the post office to return. If you are on the cusp or do need wide calf, I don't think these will work for you which is a shame cause they are very cute and versatile. ### ⭐ Definitely NOT wide calf! *by M***E on October 29, 2014* I just sent these back, they are not wide calf, I have 16" calves and I couldn't get them zipped. The foot part was also too small.
