EITHER CRIMINALS HAVE PAID THEIR DEBT TO SOCIETY BY TIME SERVED OR THEY HAVEN'T - WE CAN'T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!

*by A***F on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 21, 2014*

Ex convicts or ex felons must work if they are to live among us as peaceful productive citizens. I don't include sex offenders in the ex felons class. I feel sex offenders should never be trusted in society again ever no matter what. However if we are going to let felons back out onto the streets of our communities we must create an infrastructure for them to get jobs that at least provide a living wage. I am not saying that felons are suitable choices for jobs that require extreme levels of trust with children, the elderly or other vulnerable folk. Forcing felons into the lowest of the low paying jobs is harsh. A felon is almost forced back into crime if his record prevents them getting a good job. I understand that many good people do not want to work along side an ex con but they are NOT all bad.I am disabled and vulnerable what some might consider a ripe target for exploitation by ex cons but, in my many dealings with ex offenders as teacher, mentor and friend I've found most ex-cons aren't in a hurry to go back into prison. The only people who rush right back onto prison are those in gangs and its drug trade. People in the drug and gang trade are world class losers anyway so they can be discounted. Ex Felons who did their time and want a better life are often so happy to get a good job they will work harder than those who take a great job for granted. This book gives ex felons that extra bit of hope by sharing job seeking, interview and application filing skills that give them the best chance at landing a good job. There are certain rough and tumble jobs where a rap sheet is not as big an anchor pulling you down as it would be in a nice office somewhere. the biggest issue an ex felon has going against them is the fear of others whose knowledge of prison was created in the movies. Ex felons are often viewed as monsters who can never be redeemed and while that is true with some convicts its not true of them all.Fear among employees, employers or potential customers keeps companies from wanting to risk hiring an ex-con. We fear the homeless so much we have made them invisible. By asking the ex felon to answer the question have you ever been convicted of a felony we ask him to become invisible. My great grandmother had a word she would use to define someone who was considered unworthy of trust or consideration. She called such a man a "No Account" or one who is not to be trusted with the least thing. Jobs For Felons exists because; in the minds of many felons are still n"No Accounts" that are not to be trusted with anything or around anyone of value. Until the felon is truly forgiven there will always be a sub culture othat include a certtain subset of Jobs For Felons

    Jobs for Felons

*by A***E on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 21, 2013*

Jobs for Felons gave an idea of what a family member is facing when he is released. On one hand it's a grim future, but on the other it's not as bad for my fanily member as it is for others. He has no debt and a supportive family. Our judicial and legislative system need to do a better job at allowing people who have served their time and paid for their crimes to have a future as responsible citizens. Making them pay forever by not allowing licensing and decent careers is short sighted, especially for first time offenders.

    A list of suggestions

I purchased this for a friend in a hard spot. Jobs for felons is a devastatingly difficult struggle for people trying to move on from a mistake. This is a list of common sense things that may help someone who has no guidance at all. The ideas are valuable and good - but most of them are things a PO or counselor would also say. Good reinforcement of those ideas.
