    Excellent "outdoor" competition goggle!

*by K***L on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 October 2018*

As a retired competitive (international level) swimmer, I've had my fair share of goggles. In my racing days, the Diana Cosmo would be my goggles of choice (they were discontinued years ago). My second choice were the TYR Tracer TI which I had used up until this year when I was gifted with a pair of Zoggs Endura Goggles. I was never a fan of Zoggs, but the Endura are surprisingly good for a budget goggle and are perfect for fitness swimming or training.I've tried and tested most brands of Goggles from the vintage foam gasket Speedo's to the DIY Malmsten Swedish goggle, but Vorgee, an Australian swimwear brand, launched in 2005, seems to have evaded me all these years. These Vorgee Missile Eclipse goggles are a really well-made goggle, tailor-made for competition with their sleek low profile design and double mirrored lenses giving them a cool pro look. I had a few people comment on how good these looked at my local pool. The fit may not be to everyone's liking - They are first and foremost a competition goggle, so fit very snuggly into the eye socket. I actually found them more comfortable than I had expected and they sealed very well with absolutely no signs of water ingress, even when diving from the blocks. It's important to note that the lenses on these are a VERY dark blue tint, which impedes vision when swimming indoors (although you can see the extra clarity they provide and they don't fog up at all). These are clearly intended for outdoor swimming in bright sunshine (you can look directly at the sun with these on), so these would be ideal for outdoor backstroke, which, funnily enough, was the stroke that took me onto the world-class potential programme back in 2004. Another slight niggle is the length of the strap is on the short side. I've made them as large as they can possibly go and they're still quite tight - but not to the extent of leaving me with discomfort.Overall, I like these goggles a lot and I will be using them for swimming outdoors abroad. I'd easily recommend these for swimmers seeking a high-performance outdoor competition goggle or to anyone that wants (or doesn't mind) a low profile fit.Update: Well, I've used these on quite a few occasions swimming outdoors abroad since my initial review and I have to say these are now my favourite EVER set of goggles. Swimming for fitness in sunshine or showers, these are perfect in every way. Comfort has improved now they have loosened up and they now fit so well that I can swim without placing the strap around my head. I have just ordered the standard mirrored version for swimming indoors as these have finally made me realise the Zoggs are cheap for a reason...they don't last and are now letting water in.

Good fit, vision good only outdoors, strap is too short

*by R***S on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 September 2018*

The 'Vorgee Missile Eclipse Metallic Mirrored Lens' Black swimming goggles are OK for outdoors swimming in strong light, but adults will probably need a longer strap. We both needed to test them using a spare

.My goggles are actually labelled Extreme Competition, but still have the same Black colour scheme and double mirrored lens as the Eclipse Metallic in the Az description. The fit on our eye sockets was reasonably good, no leaks from the silicone seal, and the nose bridge piece as supplied was correct so we did not need to try the three alternatives. The vision outdoors though the almost full coverage (no light leakage around the sides) black lenses is a weird deep purple blue even underwater, it matches the chill. There was no sun when I tested them but it feels like there will be very little risk of eye damage from an inadvertent glimpse, and they claim to be UV protecting. Indoors they are impossible, just don’t even bother trying, they are so dark one is effectively blind under the water. There was no fogging after a quick lick; the instructions emphasised not to use chlorinated water to ‘activate’ the anti-fog layer. It remains to be seen how long this anti-fog might last.BUT, there is a problem. The strap is about two inches too short for an adult head, either male with short hair or female with lots of hair under a cap. Even the instructions say the strap should be looser rather than tighter. It is easy to shorten a long strap by adjustment, but impossible to lengthen a short one. The strap is probably OK for a child or small adult, if without long hair bundled into the swim hat.I like the hard case they are supplied in; it allows them to dry out completely without being crushed by the other kit in the swim bag. If the flexy hinges don’t fail, it might even last as long as my ancient Speedo case. The safety instructions are necessary, clear, and sufficient. New wearers of goggles should heed them!
