At this price I would have been happy if it survived for 2 years. The lights function really well and are solar powered, charging during the day and providing lots of light for a long time during the night. This also provides protection from the rain and can withstand some pretty strong wind as it is vented in the center at the top. The vent is covered but will expand when wind hits the underside of the umbrella...NICE! The Umbrella comes with a set of built in ties so when closed, it will stay that way, even in windy conditions. I have a cast iron base that I put mine into, as this does not come with a base. The Umbrella is easy to assemble, easy to open and provides good comfortable shade on hot summer days. Tan was my choice of color and it never faded over the course of the five years that I owned the first one. The fabric is very durable but finally did develop a tear after the fourth year, thus the reason why I bought another one. I'm very happy with the quality of this umbrella and highly recommend it! There is a switch on the umbrellas pole. **Q: Crank assembly broke, can it be repaired?** A: I am only a customer. Our crank assembly broke and we could not come up with a fix. I returned the whole umbrella through Kohl's and Amazon return program. **Q: Can this be used in a Baja step in the pool without rusting?** A: No, It is not an aluminum pole as advertised. It rusted immediately. **Q: Will this umbrella work as a stand alone?** A: You need a base for it to be a standalone. I bought this almost 2 years ago (June 2021) and it’s been amazing! I live in Idaho, and the wind and elements are brutal and I always leave it open. It flew away one day, after a 40 mph + windstorm, ( I found it about 500 yards away, stuck on a fence) and it had one little rip, but the lights still worked, and it still opened and closed easily. Just last week, we had a very crazy storm, and it broke one of its ribs and broke the tilt feature so now it only tilts, (it’ll stay upright until wind comes along) but it’s STILL USABLE!!! It’s whithstood an ungodly amount of wind. I could’ve maintained it better, (putting it down when it was windy) but I am constantly on my back patio, rain, sleet, snow or shine. It protects me from all the elements!
