militado field watch

Review: ええやん、まわりの評判もええやん - スイープセコンドに惹かれてポチ。アメリカから来るのでそれなりに日数はかかるものの、大満足。手巻きのような運針レトロ。
Review: I’m very impressed. - I ordered this watch as an alternative to some other much more expensive field watches. I have a Seiko 5 SRPG35 automatic field watch which I love (and this won’t be replacing), but I have been intrigued by Chinese watches for a while now, and thought for fifty bucks, this was probably a great little addition and worth a try. It did not disappoint. With a stainless case, sapphire crystal, and screw down crown with 100m water resistance (my Seiko has neither sapphire nor a screw down crown), it seemed like the perfect low budget alternative to other high dollar field watches made on the same Vietnam era watch spec. I also don't really feel like this is so much a copy of another watch (as many of the Chinese watches are) since it relies on the same generic military pattern that was (and is) made by numerous other companies. It has a Seiko VH31 ‘mecaquartz’ quartz movement with very good accuracy and a sweeping second hand to give you the feeling of a mechanical watch, but in a much more robust and accurate package. Because it’s quartz, the case is also thinner, giving a lower profile on the wrist. I saw some reviews complaining theirs was not a sweep second hand - but that’s evidently because they ordered the wrong model - I nearly did the same. They offer this watch with several different movements, so you have to read the description carefully to make sure you are getting the VH31 movement if that’s what you want. One quirk I noticed is it is a little difficult to set precisely; the minute hand moves forward a tiny amount when pushing the crown back in. After fiddling with a few times, I figured out if you pass the correct minute then move it backwards to the correct index before pressing in the crown, it seems to solve the problem. While I have only had it a day it hasn’t lost a single second. A lot of people also seem to complain about the included NATO strap - they have several different colors available (again, beware the movement in whichever you choose) but it seems fine to me, in line with several other inexpensive NATO’s I’ve ordered from desertcart. I ordered mine with the Black NATO and the beige stripe. I did replace it straight away with an old ‘battle worn’ sand colored NATO simply because I like the color and ‘’worness’ of it better. With a 20mm lug width, you can easily fit whatever you like on it and I already have a drawer full of straps that work. The water resistance rating seems reasonable considering construction and purpose - with a screw down stainless case back and the aforementioned screw down crown. The crown feels solid and is quite smooth to screw and unscrew and seems like it will be very durable. Showered with it this morning and got it in the creek on a hike and had no issues, but that is the extent of my testing on that so far. As to the crystal, it’s sapphire with a slight dome which I find really appealing. It supposedly has some anti-reflective coating, but as you can see in the pics it is still pretty reflective. This really only seems a problem when making photos and I didn’t notice it in actual use. They also offer different models of the same watch but with a smaller size at 36mm and a box sapphire crystal - I like the look but way too small for me, as well as one with acrylic. Again, buyer beware as to the specific specs of what you order. As to size, at 38mm it’s only slightly smaller than my Seiko, but wears very differently. Besides being 38mm, it’s also thinner, so it just feels really small to me and my 8.5 inch wrist. Not negative - just different. The dial is exactly what you would expect with this spec. It is done well and looks great. They offer it either sterile or with a broad arrowhead design. Sterile is historically accurate, but it was going to take a few more days to ship so I ordered the one with the arrowhead design. I like it just as well and was frankly impatient, wanting to try it out before I had to go back to work after my long weekend this week. The lume is frankly this watch’s biggest shortfall. Bright at first but fades very quickly. Not a deal breaker for me, but if you really need great long-lasting lume, you should probably pass. Incidentally, this is one of the strongest features of my Seiko - its lume will last for hours. So far it seems like the nearly perfect field watch. Durable, accurate, and affordable enough that if it does get broken or lost in the field I’m not going to cry over it. The only real question I have is battery life. The description says two years, which from other reviews I’ve read seems relatively accurate, however it arrived already ticking so who knows how long it’s been sitting in a warehouse somewhere. We’ll have to wait and see. I took it on a hike this morning and snapped a few pics and a short video to hopefully help others decide. I also included a side by side with my Seiko 5 field for comparison. But honestly, if you want a durable and functional field watch with classic looks (including a classic sweep second hand) that you actually don’t have to worry about in the field, it’s hard to go wrong with this piece. Just be careful when ordering - with so many variations you have to carefully read the descriptions to make sure you get what you want. I’m very impressed - especially for $50.

### ⭐ Do not buy this watch!!!
*by J***N on 29 June 2026*

Do not buy this watch!!! Therabble watch. The minute hand have a tolerance of a minute forward and back off the mark where it is supposed to be. Slightly moving your hand will displace the minute hand from the position you adjusted it to + or - of one minute. So you’re not sure what time it is exactly, let alone the ugliness of a watch that is supposed to follow the second hand and land exactly on the mark when at 12 and in the middle when it is at 30 seconds. This play of the minute hand is absolutely unacceptable. Where is the quality, where is the integrity?
