After calibration (yes they should be calibrated), I received accurate readings within seconds and got consistent results over an average of 3 readings. The screen also turns different colors to indicate fever grade if a high temperature is detected. I compared the readings to multiple readings from a hospital grade oral thermometer and received accurate readings to ±0.2°F. There are also settings for ambient temperature and surface temperature that I did not test in depth.
