I think the manufacturer would not be selling this ramp if not fit for purpose. The strip is stuck down very securely so it would have to be constantly getting wet through, I'm guessing. In the meantime when we've been walking in the rain and she's using the ramp there's no issue at all. The strip dries wet doggy paws easily itself in minutes. The hinges are sturdy and the plastic is light but rigid. I fold it and put it in the car itself or the boot. For health and safety, plus common sense, I wouldn't expect anything other than a dog to use it, not a child or an adult. Personally, I would definitely recommend this ramp. The ramp surface itself is incredibly rough sand paper, you couldn't have a dog walk straight on it in my opinion. We put a blanket over it and let him walk on that. That's the obly problem we have with it. It folds down fairly compact and isn't too heavy for one person to maneuver.
