Review: Important information - I am experiencing severe hearing loss. It started about 10 months ago. I have been to three ENT doctors in two cities and consulted a surgeon at Mayo Clinic. None could tell or even tried to determine the cause of this loss. All they did was shine a flashlight in my ear and told me I had no infection. I find that quite disappointing. My hearing loss fluctuates from the ability to hear somewhat without an aide (I have tried three)to hardly being able to hear at all. I did have an MRI and of course I have had audiology exams. This book has introduced me to tests that can be performed that might be helpful. Even if the tests prove there is no help at least I would like to understand the reason. I will talk to the folks at Mayo Clinic when I return this month. This book is full of information. If you are experiencing a new loss this is a very useful book.

The authors are physicians and the book is too oriented toward the medical aspects of hearing loss. More emphasis on the functioning of people with hearing loss would help.
