However, I simply held the part being installed (such as the towel rack) on it's side and lined up the inside holes where the brackets go. This method worked great and alignment was true. Overall, all the items seem sturdy. Typically with these type of pieces the small screw that pushes against the bracket to secure each piece of the set can become loose. If this happens to you, or if it happens to me, take the screw out with the provided allen wrench and dab some lock-tite on the screw, then reinsert. This should stop it from pushing itself out. I'll update this thread as we use the set in our bathroom if problems arise.
