Review: Best purchase - UPDATE JANUARY 2023: This little milk maker is still going strong! I use it religiously and it'snever given me problems. I even (accidentally) got the head of the unit wet; it glitched out at first, but I let it dry out and it's been fine ever since. When this unit goes bad, I will absolutely buy another! UPDATE APRIL 2022: I definitely don't regret this purchase! I did have a minor incident where the screen wasn't locked securely in place (my fault) and came off during the grinding process. That action caused the blades to poke a hole through my screen. Since this unit comes with 2 screens (one for nut and one for rice milk) I just started using the rice milk screen to make my nut milk and honestly, I don't see the difference. I still need to buy the extra screen to have on hand, but I believe I have to do this through the manufacturer; extra screens are not sold on desertcart (as of this writing.) This is STILL a wonderful purchase for me. It's sturdy, easy to operate, simple to clean, and will save me hundreds of dollars a year, with an extra bonus of not having to throw away hundreds of wax containers a year. ORIGINAL REVIEW FROM SEPTEMBER 2021: Pros: * Easy to clean. Not sure why some of these reviews talk about it being hard to clean. Very simple, even the filter. * Easy to use. I make oat milk and I use oat groats to do it. Rolled oats made a slimy mess for me. I use 1 cup of oat groats, fill the water to the first fill line inside the carafe, press MILL 6 times (it grinds for a few seconds then stops. I repeat this process 6 times for thicker milk), then add 1 teaspoon of pink salt and 1/2 teaspoon of stevia, and sometimes I'll also add 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Then voila! We have fresh oat milk everyday in 2 minutes. Cons: * one batch makes just a little over a 1/2 gallon. You have to make 2 batches if you go through it quicker, but it's not that much more time or effort to do so. * this may seem silly but the MILK and the MILL button are right next to each other and to make nut milk, you have to use the MILL button. I haven't made anything with the MILK button so not even sure what that does. I only mention this because it was confusing in the vague instructions, and MILK and MILL or similar words with (apparently) two different functions. It would be easy to accidentally press the wrong button. * which leads me to the last con which is poor instructions. The instructions themselves aren't horrible, but there's no recipe or anything inside to use as a guideline. I created my recipe through trial and error. It's a great purchase. Has saved me a ton of money from having to buy oat milk at the store, and I'm no longer throwing out oat milk containers. I've used it every day for 3 months and have not had any issues. Very happy with my choice in nut milk makers.
Review: Saves money, time & pleases the tastebuds - I absolutely love this machine!! I have not used it to make soy milk though. I am a raw foodist so I got this amazing little time saver to make raw almond milk, nut butters, and for grinding flax/nuts/spices. I have found this machine to do all of these things absolutely perfectly & without any type of problem. I have had mine for 3 years and haven't had one mechanical problem. Other reviewers have complained about... The sound - I actually enjoy the sound because you can hear it working & can stop the machine if you just want a coarse grind or what not. Really it is not that loud. A sharp blade - well yeah I'm glad I haven't had to send it back to be resharpened. Just be careful when you are handling the unit and you won't cut yourself - you know how to use a knife right? Same principles apply here. Hard to clean - just make sure you clean the screens right away & don't let them sit or else it might be a bit more difficult. Most of the time I can just empty out what I was making, add water, and run to clean it thoroughly. The milk doesn't taste good - well this is probably the operators fault. There are recipes you can follow and if you expect to just throw some soy beans or almonds in there with some water and expect it to taste like the store bought with tons of other stuff added it really isn't going to happen. Try adding dates, vanilla, agave, sea salt, carob - whatever - be creative! Some have mentioned that they got water on the electrical components & had to wait for it to dry out...this has never happened to me. I would think as long as your not throwing things around and spraying water all over your kitchen you shouldn't have a problem with this...calm down, open your eyes, and operate the machine properly. I guess in today's day and age we expect everyone else to take care of everything for us while we run around like morons. This machine is very easy to use, produces great results, is fairly priced, and helps to save the environment. I highly recommend it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this make raw nut milk/butter? It does mention heat, does the heat stay lower than 110 degrees, or does it cook the nuts? Thank you**
A: I've only made almond milk with mine. It comes out cold as I start with cold distilled water. Making milk only grinds the nuts you've soaked overnight and combines the "juice of the nut" with the water. There is no heat in this process. Maybe doing something else with it uses heat.

**Q: Are all of the internal parts that come into contact with the milk made from stainless steel, or is there some plastic internally? Thanks!**
A: The plastic internal is above the rotor blade, and not much of it comes in contact with the milk, but if you make soy milk, chances are that if it starts boiling, it will come into contact with the plastic part, but it does have an overflow sensor so as to avoid boiling over. If you make hemp milk with it, the milk won't come into much contact with the plastic, and you shouldn't even heat the hemp milk. I recommend making hemp milk with the Soyabella, much better than soy milk. The Soyabella is arguably one of the better hemp milk makers out there.

**Q: how many almonds does it take to make a small batch of milk?**
A: It takes one cup of almonds, which is the cup included with the soyabella and is a lot smaller than the standard 8 ounce cup. I've found that it makes a very watered down almond milk compared to the almond milk that I make in the vitamix blender, which I then strain in a nut milk bag.

**Q: I like thicker milk. What is ratio of water:almonds for making milk?**
A: There are 2 lines in the pot. If you want thicker, fill to the lower line. Thinner to the top line. I like mine in the middle.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fine soymilk maker, not very helpful manufacturer
*by N***N on May 4, 2009*

I have had this soymilk maker for maybe two years now, and I think it's a really good option for its price. It works as advertised, and with some trial and error I have figured out how to simplify the process so that prep and cleanup are easy. I have never had any problems with it boiling over. However I did have a problem with the vibration of the machine during the grinding phase making it "migrate" right off the counter and fall onto the floor making a big mess (and requiring replacement, as the screen came off and tangled in the blade and both were ruined). So now I always make sure it's on a secure spot from which it can't jump off any cliffs. If I start the beans soaking in the morning, then I'll make the milk at night before I go to bed and let it sit overnight. This is very important to simplify the cleaning process. The milk is way too hot to deal with anyway right after it's made, but when it's had a good chance to cool off, it's much easier to clean the milkscreen. At first I would spend way too long having to scrub all the little mesh holes clear again when it hadn't sat for long enough. I nearly gave up. But for whatever reason with an overnight sit, only a basic rinse and light scrub is necessary. If you just set the head with screen attached into a sturdy bowl to drip while you pour the milk out and clean out the canister (which isn't too hard to do without getting water into the electric part), then you can unscrew the screen (and press a little more soymilk out of the okara/grounds). It's not too hard to clean the head, though of course you should be careful of the sharp blade. And you can experiment with different nuts etc. I've hit on a combo of one little cup of soybeans and one ounce of raw almonds (unblanched is fine) to make a really nicely flavored soymilk. When it's done I add a pinch of salt and a spoonful of agave syrup and it's perfect for my morning tea. I have to say Tribest's customer service sucks. They don't answer emails--not a peep, nothin', despite a number of attempts--and they're not very helpful over the phone. And as another reviewer pointed out, the manual isn't that great. The instructions for making almond milk, for example, are just wrong. But the product is definitely good once you figure out how to use it.
