## Description

10g of Kombuchaorganic Live Certified Organic MILK KEFIR Grains - Grass Fed Cow's MILK Kefir Grains - LAB Tested : desertcart.co.uk: Home & Kitchen

Review: These microbes grow fast :) - At the same time as the kefir grains, I bought a couple of fermentation jars (I use one but as it is glass I am glad I have a spare) and a little sieve (both of which turned out to be perfect for the job). The grains came in a tiny food-quality plastic bag and I wondered how long it would take to get a mug of kefir. 48 hours later I was enjoying my first mug full. I put a mug of warmed milk (from the fridge to the microwave for 1.5 mins on 900w setting warms the milk nicely) to ferment every day. Only about 3 weeks later and I am not only enjoying a very thick mug of Kefir each morning but once a week I am eating some of the culture to keep it at bay :) I also wash out the fermentation jar only once a week. The jar sits on my worktop in a fairly shaded area and yet the microbes still thrive. Given the cost of shop-bought kefir I recouped my initial investment within two weeks; so all it is costing me now is a mug of milk (blue top - full fat milk) and a little microwave electricity every day (I only use the microwave because I am not willing to wait for the milk to get to room temperature slowly). All in all I call that a win. The three photos show the kefir before decanting, the empty jar and the cultures in the sieve. The fermentation jars are top quality too. I have also found that the mug of kefir each morning keeps the hungry-bugs at bay for about 6 hours (I am retired but fairly active so burn energy); which is great for anyone practicing intermittent fasting. Update after 3 months of daily drink - the kefir is nice and thick every 24 hours or so. Very sour/tart which is excellent. I need a bigger seive! I have to eat some of the cultures to keep them in check too. I have not washed the fermentation jar for at least 3 weeks and all is still very good and clean inside the jar. All in all - highly recommended.
Review: Proper kefir! - Finally, I can make proper kefir (not the store bought nonsense that looks like milk with guar gum)! And it arrived very safely packaged, fabric sealed, with helpful instructions

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is the kefir suitable for vegetarian? And does it have alcohol?**
A: Yes, kefir does contain alcohol. Kefir ferments in two different ways: bacteria thicken it up (compare with yogurt), and the yeast produces a tiny amount of alcohol (compare with bread - but bread is baked, which boils the alcohol off). Kefir grains are a "SCOBY" - a "Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast". By tiny I mean very tiny indeed. Most Muslim scholars hold for example that kefir does not break the "no alcohol" rule because however much you consume would not intoxicate you. Why not? Because you would have to drink a roomfui, which is physically impossible. Therefore it is not possible to get drunk on kefir. However, they would ban even the tiniest sip of say beer or wine, because if you drink enough glasses you would get tipsy and then drunk. I am not Muslim or otherwise religious, but I do abstain from alcohol. I make an exception for kefir because it is such a great food and the alcohol content is so small. But the strict answer to the question "does it contain alcohol" is "yes".

**Q: How many strains of bacteria and yeast are inside the grains? Can we have a list of them?**
A: Kefir has anywhere from 30 to 50 strains of bacteria the best research on what to expect with Kefir grains is by Dominic Anfiteatro . LACTOBACILLI

**Q: Can these be used immediately? Or do they need preparation before I can make kefir?**
A: Put the grains in a jar with a cupful of organic or ordinary full cream milk and leave for 24-48 hours, when it should have thickened. Sieve (using plastic sieve and spoon)put the grains in a clean jar to start again.I use pickle jars which are slightly bigger than a jam jar.The taste might not be to your liking so just add a little fresh milk or juice.

**Q: Can i buy a tibetan mushroom**
A: I do not know. How are they different from other mushrooms?

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Proper kefir!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Back to health - The natural way
*by S***E on 11 May 2024*

Having spent the last 2 years in and out of doctors, suffering with tiredness and muscle weakness with no resolution from said doctors, i was on the point of giving up on everything when i began to realise that even eating food was making me unwell. Not any one specific food or food groups though, all foods. As a measure of last resort i decided to put myself on a back to basics diet. No processed foods, no sugar, just single ingredient foods and though researching the health benefits of various foods from around the world, i chanced upon this miracle product. It has been a game changer for me and it has given me my life back. I can make plans again. I can have hopes and dreams again. I can just do things without worrying about how many days it will take to recover and it's all down to a few grams of Kefir. No it has not turned me into superman but it did have me thinking it when i started taking this such was the effect it has had. I will say that what you have delivered wont seem like much at first but place it in a fermentation Jar and just feed it milk every other day and the magic will start to happen. It wont taste great and my advice would be to just pour away the strained fekir for a couple of weeks while it gets up to speed unless you have a strong disposition. The taste will improve but it is an acquired taste rather than an enjoyable one but with its incredible benefits it is so definitely worth it. It does "something" in your gut. I don't really know what it does but it does good things down there. I am no longer tired and my muscle strength is returning. What it is doing down there is nothing short of a miracle for me. Dont bother buying the shop branded fekir yogurt as there is so little fekir in them. Buy this one, make it yourself and save yourself some money as well as its health benefits it gives. If you're reading this and my story seems familiar to you, then try this out. Maybe it will benefit others as much as it has done for me. Couldn't rate this product any higher.
