Review: Great for Learning Brush Lettering! - I’ve just recently started to teach myself brush lettering and these pens are great for that! I started off getting the Tombow Dual Brush Pen Art Markers, Primary, 10-Pack but was having a hard time trying to adjust to holding the grip while also remembering to do thin upstrokes and hard downstrokes because of their very soft brush marker tip. I thought I would get something for brush lettering that had more of a pen-like feel so that I could get the motion down, and that’s when I came across the Tombow Fudenosuke pens. Now if you haven’t used these before, I would highly, highly recommend getting this pack of both the hard and soft nib! At first, I was leaning towards getting the hard nib pen but after reading several reviews, the opinions on hard vs. soft were everywhere making me unsure whether or not I was getting the right product for what I needed. I’m really glad I decided to go with this pack because now after having them for a while I can definitely say I prefer the soft tip! It just requires such minimal effort to get fine strokes and hard strokes. Both pens feature great pointed nibs that excel at writing the finest lines with light pressure and fabulous, bold lines with hard pressure. The difference between them is hard to explain. For brush lettering, I think if you have a tendency to write harder and with more pressure in general, you’ll like the hard tip. If you tend to write with lighter pressure like I do, the soft nib is the way to go! The soft tip isn’t too spongy so you can control it around your curves and gives great buttery, bold strokes without needing to exert too much pressure. The hard tip is a little more stiff and I find that if you don’t differentiate between light and hard pressure it’s easy to just write with consistent line width. The hard tip is the dark blue pen with the green Japanese symbol on it and the soft tip is a very dark green pen with the light blue Japanese symbol on it. Both pens have black, watercolor ink. I’ve attached a picture showing how they differ in writing!
Review: I love these pens. - Originally someone gave these to me as a gift, but I loved them so much I bought myself more of them. I use these pens for all sorts of artwork, but mostly for my calligraphy. They are really nice; they write super smooth, dry really fast so they don't smudge, and have a good amount of ink in them. I will definitely keep buying these.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are refilling instructions included?**
A: Anything is refillable if you put your mind to it. My personal method is to drill a tiny hole in the back, and use a blunt syringe (a dropper works as well) to fill it, and then use a small silicon plug to seal it off, which you can easily buy 100 of for under 10 dollars.

Alternatively, like another poster said, you could let the tip soak in ink over night. If you do that, make sure to cover the pen and ink neatly in a plastic bag, so it doesn't dry at all overnight. Bonus points if you sprits a little water on the bag

**Q: Are all 3 pens refillable? Where do I find black & gray inks?**

**Q: Can they go below watercolor ? Would the smear if it’s on the bottom? Or wait til it dries.. looking forward waterproof so I can watercolor ?**
A: Yes and no . It does not smear

**Q: Are these suitable for artist signature on metal? on canvas?**
A: I would say... Definitely "NO" on metal -- because they are not "permanent marker" . They are water-based.
(I've seen "Sharpie" signatures on wine bottles, and have seem that rub off with use. If the metal won't be handled, a Sharpie fine-point (not ultra-fine) might suffice. Always practice and experiment on a non-art piece.
On a canvas... I don't consider the tip to be stout and trustworthy on a canvas (work of art).
(If I were where my set is, I'd experiment for you....but based on my many years with "markers",
I think the rough texture of a canvas (+ paint) would bully these pens.)
If your canvas "art" is done and you don't need to release it ASAP, definitely research this because you want to make sure what you use is "archival"--I don't think Sharpies are. If you do need to release your art, consider signing the back section (that folds over). Many painters sign using a paint brush and the same paint used (in the oil on oil example). I wouldn't have the patience or the steady-handedness to do that, but there are those artists who feel their signature is part of the painting. Anyway... hope this helps!
