I used them to hike down a very muddy and rocky trail to a the Queens Bath in Kauai and they were perfect. Tennis Shoes are a terrible idea for hiking. The mesh confirms to your foot and does not irritate or rub. The barefoot feel helped me navigate the rocky terrain; protecting my feet and allowing me to feel the ground beneath me. The holes in the bottom allowed me to rinse the mud out and dry quickly. **Q: Are these listed in mens sizes unless otherwise notated? It is an orange, spongy material that is perforated throughout with holes that are spaced about 1/4" apart. That base is covered with a very thin, yellow, plastic mesh. My size is 41 and the news ones seem tighter. I think the old ones have stretched slightly, but the new ones seem to be a bit shorter as well. I think I'll order my second replacement pair in the next size up.
