Review: Very Good Cacao Powder - Needed to cut back on drinking coffee for health reasons so was looking at alternatives. Tea is nice but wanted something else as an option too. Having heard about the health benefits of natural Cacao I was looking for a unprocessed natural version. The problem with high street Cacao from your supermarket is it comes with sugar and sometimes additives and I wanted something natural and healthier. I tried this and almost immediately got addicted to it. At first it was a little bitter but I got to really like the taste and now I drink this regularly when I would've been drinking coffee. It's fantastic with a piece of 90% or more dark chocolate. Mind you if you don't like strong bitter chocolate or drinks which are bitter rather than sweetened to death then this may not be for you. For me it's perfect and economical too. A 500g bag lasts me 4 to 6 months. For reference, when I'm making a cup, I just add powder to taste and dilute it in hot water stirring well. I don't use milk or anything else. Wish I'd know about it when I was working in offices as it's so convenient.

The pack is a whopping 1kg, which might seem too much when you usually get 100 - 200g in the supermarket, but unlike those cocoas, there are no fillers, no gluten, no nuts, no nasties, and the resealable pouch it comes in keeps it fresh for absolutely ages. The flavour is strong and warming, ideal for cocoa or cakes. Fantastic for making raw bars ( with dates and nuts) I use mine for cocoa, cakes and this time making energy bars ( gluten free, wheat free, dairy free, no refined sugars) sounds awful but came out really really well. I highly recommend indigo herb products either direct or through desertcart.

**Q: is it Dutch-processed or otherwise alkalised? Thanks**
A: I really dont know. but I know that criollo beans are red as a communist. and this powder is not ! so I contacted them,that is indigo herb , and they later told me that they had looked in to it and found out that it was only 70% criollo. now they have changed the label . but they assured me that it was organic. they were helpfull . but it taste better than other kakao beans that is not criollo ! much better !! . recipi : a bit coconut milk, some Vanilla, honey or sugar, a spoon powder and some milk ,soy,rice ..whatever, into the blender on high speed. when you get it right it taste better than anything you can buy in store. but if it is truly organic or alkilized og Dutch prossessed ( whatever that is... ? ) you could ask indgo herb ?

**Q: Is this product still raw? Used to be labelled as such**
A: They now do a RAW and a non-RAW product. This is the non-RAW product. If you want RAW buy the RAW one... At the time of writing the RAW one is not available through Amazon - you have to go to Indigo's website, where currently, it's out of stock. The RAW one says RAW on the packet.

**Q: Hello, is this Arriba Nacional? and is it unroasted?**
A: From the label, this product is described as Theobroma Cocao, and is in powder form. There is no indication of whether the beans have been roasted.  The cocoa is pure and raw and native to South America.

**Q: I don’t see anything on the packaging to say that it is raw. How can I be sure?**

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice flavour and good price

I’m new to using cacao powder and so am definitely no expert however I am very happy with the price and quality of this product taste wise. I used it this morning making some chocolate based on coconut oil. The recipe was 100g of oil. 50g of cacao powder and 1 tsp of vanilla powder (although I used ½ tsp) and it was/is delicious* Having made that recipe before another cacao powder i.e. the only time I have used it before this one is much nicer. The taste is really smooth and delicious. From the packet information the cacao contains potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium. It also states its Raw certified Organic Peruvian. Also very important for me is the expiry on these products when I don’t use a lot all the time. This one is a good 18 months so great. Very pleased it’s a good flavour and a good price. * That recipe can be adapted by adding other flavours like orange etc.
