It is designed so that air can circulate around the coccyx. We bought this for some support to the lower back area and it does raise you up slightly to provide a comfortable seating position. I've used if both on the computer chair and in the car (see photos). Although my car seats are already extremely comfortable, the Travel Ease cushion provides that extra support at the back and raises your seating position up slightly. The cushion is made of Memory Foam, so retains its shape. It comes in a soft, comfortable, removable outer jacket that can be removed for washing. It also has a carrying handle for ease of use. The Travel Ease cushion is also supplied with a lightweight carrying travel pack that will keep it clean when not in use or when travelling. I can't really comment on the pain relief as I'm not in any pain, but it does provide a comfortable seating position, which can aid posture.
