Hot Wheels vehicles raced onto the scene in 1968, quickly becoming a die-cast icon and global sensation driven by speed, style and collectability. The Magic 8 Ball rolled into the Mattel portfolio in 1997 with the acquisition of Tyco Toys, Inc., and became an iconic novelty toy whose fortune-telling skills may be “hazy” but are “without a doubt,” fun! Arriving in the US in 1989 and acquired with HiT Entertainment, Thomas & Friends hopped aboard Mattel’s train in 2011, bringing delightful characters, comforting connections and new best friends. The classic Chatter Telephone dials in the nostalgia inspired by pre-school toys from Fisher-Price that brought other favorites like the Corn Popper and Little People into the Mattel family in 1993. Mattel called “UNO!” in 1992 when it acquired the rights for the classic card game from International Toys -- this 80th Anniversary edition celebrates traditional UNO play with themed graphics sure to drive fans wild! From its humble beginnings in a tiny garage 80 years ago, Mattel founders and toymakers Ruth and Elliot Handler and Harold Matson forever changed how generations of kids play with iconic global brands that impact culture, inspire dreams and innovate for a bright future Barbie dolls and playsets are made to stimulate imagination, expressiveness and discoveries through play, and create long-lasting memories.
