It also says you have to use them in pairs on the same axle, NOT on the same side of the vehicle... It says do NOT use only one stand, that two stands are required or damage to the stands can occur. So the answer to your question is yes and NO... yes they are rated at 3 tons each but can only be safely used as a pair for a max rated of 5 tons per pair... meaning each stand will hold 2.5 tons (5000 lbs). At least that is the information included with the product I received. Which can be confusing and seems misleading when you look what others have stated is the max rating for these stands. **Q: Are these much a much better design compared to the 4 leg cheaper jack stands?** A: I have homemade set the difference is made from heavy gauge steel with large sqaure 1/4-inch plate. Whoever made them actually knows how to weld. As you said much better design think I'll grab a set. **Q: Will this hold my 4000lb Lexus for changing rims?
