The spring-loaded arrangement of the slatted wings is ingenious and tactile, allowing it to reduce in size for storage. A long bread-knife makes the cutting easy. The end-board can be fitted in any of the gaps between the slats of wood....that is why the gaps are all 5mm, while the slats are of various thicknesses......so if you want thin slices of bread you place the end-board next to a slimmer wooden slat, which requires the build of the slicer to be made with precision, which it is. Also, with the proper woodcare equipment the slicer becomes a thing of beauty, (and I love it). ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Luckily I read the reviews *by S***7 on 27 November 2018* This is a beautifully made piece of kit and much sturdier than the plastic ones I have broken so many of. The first time I used it I couldn't believe that I couldn't cut all the way down through the loaf. I had it all packaged up to return. Luckily I read the other reviews and that caused me to look closer at the product photos - turns out I had it upside down first time!!
